Gérardmer, the pearl of the Vosges
Do you know why it’s pronounced “Gérardmé” and not “Gérardmère”? Gérardmer takes its name from Gérard d’Alsace, Duke of Lorraine from 1048 to 1070, and from the Latin word “meix” meaning garden. The spelling of the town has evolved over the years, but the pronunciation comes from the Latin origins of the word and our dear Duke of Lorraine, so it has nothing to do with any sea that may once have been here.
Lake Gérardmer
In summer, the lake offers a variety of water-based activities, including paddling, sailing, kayaking and pedal-boating, as well as a leisure center. For lovers of land-based activities, the 20,000 km of marked trails in the Vosges mountains offer countless hiking possibilities, transforming into snowshoeing itineraries in winter.
